Creating a basic video: post-production

Post-production is the stage you enter after filming the clip when raw footage is being turned into a completed video. In this guide, we tell you what we do exactly before we release the video and who is responsible for the final result.

In post-production we process the footage: do colour correction, voice-overs, add visual effects and legal information, complete editing and get approval of the video.

The video director and designer are responsible for most of the tasks. The production designer and lawyers are involved at this stage to coordinate the final result. The creator makes sure that all decisions are aligned with the concept.

Here are the main items to pay attention to.

  • Colour correction. After filming, the material may not look the way it was intended to. Colour correction is applied to bring the video to the desired visual result. The director or producer runs the process of colourization, and we get the designer’s approval for the final version.
  • Resizes and timing. We make sure that the video meets the requirements of the platforms it will be released on and all the resizes are there. We also check that the duration of the video meets the terms of reference. Resizes and timing are the director’s and producer’s responsibility. Sometimes the creator takes on this task themselves.
  • Legal information and age restrictions. Demonstrate the first editing copy of the video to lawyers to learn what legal information needs to be attached to it; figure out age restrictions. This stage helps to avoid possible legal problems after release.
  • Titles and text. We make sure that the text materials do not contain errors and match the project in style and tone. The final text is proofread and approved by the creator or copywriter.
  • Music, sound design and voiceover. We always go for the best sound design. The director or producer controls this stage, and the creator checks how well it fits the idea of the video. If you need to find a voice-over artist, make a request to the Creative Team and select performers in a freelancers’ database.
  • Animation. The designer provides a ready-made composition in .png format, the motion designer animates it. The result is approved by the creator.
  • Packshot or Explainer. To create a graphic packshot, we reach out to a designer. The creator approves the final version of both the packshot and explainer. They make sure that the visual elements correspond with the overall concept of the video and effectively convey the desired message to the audience.
  • Editing. Draft and final editing are under the director’s control. After all adjustments, the director approves the video with the team.
  • Approval with the client. After the clip is approved within the team, we coordinate it with the owner. If there are no corrections from them, we pass the video to the Digital team for the release and designers for adding it to the Knowledge Base.
